Travel to Marrakech, the exotic diamond of the East
At the foot of the snowy Atlas, in the western corner of Africa lies Marrakech, the exotic city of Morocco, which emerges from the desert as an oasis of the history and culture of Arab culture. Emotions and senses are constantly activated, through the emblematic palaces and mosques, the impressive gates and the robust walls of the red ochre, which make up the most spectacular oriental tale, luring every traveler to the mystical and exotic aura of the East, through magical routes in “the Marrakech” of the proud Berber soul.
The dazzling beauty of Marrakech and the impressive mosaic of its history and its unique culture are dynamically reflected in every corner of the city, which retains the authentic atmosphere of an Arab metropolis. Djemma el Fna Square becomes the symbol of the city and brings out the whole spectrum of Moroccan life, through the most impressive open-air theatre in the world. Colors, aromas and flavors,
as well as slow melodies pour out into the bustling labyrinths of Medina, as the colorful stream of locals and visitors circulates in the heart of the old city. The intense air of the East is reflected on the tall minarets, temples (Koutoubia) and the mosques of Islamic calligraphy, (BenYoussef mosque) while the palaces (palais Dar Si Said) and the museums (Musee de Marrakech), reveal the inexhaustible architecture and cultural beautifulness of the Arab soul. In the palm forest with the impressive villas, La Palmaraie and in the blooming Mazorelle gardens, the refreshing power of nature is depicted and it transforms a piece of Marrakech into an oasis of coolness and of an unparalleled scenery for relaxation and recreation, when at the same time in the Rue de la Liberte, the modern pulse of the city hits rhythmically. That same rhythm and energy that every traveler will carry with him forever after.
Food and local cuisine
Moroccan cuisine offers a feast of flavors through dishes of excellent ingredients. Influenced by Arabic, Mediterranean and French cuisine, the cuisine in Marrakech is a special experience. Try the tajine, (clay pot baked in an oven or on the coals) with meat (lamb or chicken), accompanied by couscous, vegetables and legumes (okra, tomatoes, chickpeas) and spices (saffron) and nuts (almonds) recipes that are highlighted in the traditional dishes of Morocco.
From sweet dishes choose the sepa, (sweet couscous), rice pudding, Campbell gzaal (gazelle horns), crescent-shaped dough filled with almond paste and icing sugar, Hansa, dough with almonds and Briwat, (triangular pieces of dough wrapped like a cigar), with sugar and nuts.
Best time to visit Marrakech
Ideally choose any time of the year, except for the summer months, due to the unbearable heat and humidity. Spring and autumn lend themselves to a comfortable and relaxing journey, with the temperature steadily ranging from 20 to 30 degrees Celsius.
