Chalkida, a city-bridge between two lands and two seas
Built almost amphitheatrically in central Evia, Chalkida stretches on both sides of the Strait of Evripos, with one part of the city located on the coast of Evia and the other on the Boeotian in the mainland. A hospitable and warm, colorful and noisy city, just as a modern big city, Chalkida lives through its history, its people and the sea currents of the Gulf of Evia that are constantly renewed and make the city the protagonist of a unique global phenomenon. That of the tide of Euripus, with the waters changing direction every six hours from north to south and then moving in the opposite direction for the next six hours. With the aura of the tide constantly refreshing it, Chalkida is revealed to every visitor who comes to live an unforgettable experience
Discover the beauties of the city from a height, from the verdant hill of Fourka above the city, where today stands one of the two castles that guarded Chalkida, the Castle of Kanithos or Karabamba, a sample of exceptional fortress architecture. Enjoy the magnificent view to the bay and head to the magnificent coastal front of the city, on the wide pedestrian street parallel to the waters of Evripos and wander around the urban landscape. Indulge in the air of nobility that exudes the city through extremely beautiful neoclassical buildings, such as the red house and the house with the statues. See the impressive City Hall and admire the Mosque of Emir Zade, the only surviving. Do not forget to take pictures of the city from the old city bridge, a favorite point of the water flow phenomenon, a real attraction itself.

Some of the special dishes that one can enjoy in Chalkida are curcumbins or goggles (a type of handmade pasta), trachanas, rooster with wine and lamb giouvetsi.
