On the island we find a wide variety of dishes based on meat, as well as dishes based on seafood, squid and lobster. For the lovers of tasting, it is worth a try of the goat cheese which is preserved in wine and has a reddish color on the outside and is slightly spicy. Special mention is made of the wonderful syrupy sweets of the island (the famous sweet tomato of Kos), as well as the excellent quality wine produced on the island.
Best time to visit Kos
The island has a large number of visitors during the summer months (June-September). If you want to avoid the crowds, choose the month of May and the period from mid-September to mid-October where there are less crowds.
How to use transportation in Kos
Airport/port transfer options
During the summer months, the island is directly connected with domestic flights from Athens and other cities in Greece, as well as with international flights around the world. The "Hippocrates" international airport is located 27 km SW of the city. Alternatively you can travel by boat from the port of Piraeus.
Local transportation
Kos is a large island so we suggest having a car. It also has local transportation, a large number of bus lines connect Kos with the beaches and with others inland villages. Kos is also a bike friendly city. The city offers a wide network of bike paths and a numerous bicycle rental shops of all types (city and mountain) are located in every corner of the city.
