Astypalea: A place pure and authentic
Unaltered, authentic, a proponent of aesthetics and culture, seduces with its special beauty, Astypalea is the place where from the first minute in its alleys invites you to a magical journey that will be unforgettable.
Its’ beautiful Chora is the first thing you will see when you arrive on the island. Built amphitheatrically on a hill with windmills and white houses with blue windows, with bougain-villeas covering its cobbled alleys, while at the top dominates the famous Venetian castle ( 13th century) through which the white domes of Evangelistria and Agios Georgios emerge. In the shadow of the castle you will find Panagia Portaitissa which is considered one of the most beautiful churches in the Dodecanese

Do not leave a speck of the island unexplored, only in this way you will feel the uniqueness of Astypalea. Apart from Chora, explore the other beautiful villages: Maltezana or Analipsi, Vathi and Livadi.
There are many beaches formed by its lacy coves around the island. Small earthly paradises, with crystal clear deep blue waters with a background of slopes and rocks. Vatses, Kaminakia, Panormos, Pachia Ammos, Livadi on the outside island or the Lost Lake lagoon are some of them.
Enjoy the excellent local cuisine in Astypalea
Astypalea is an island with a very interesting and delicious cuisine. Do not leave without trying: Astypalitiko goat, arantista (lentils cooked with chopped dough and plenty of vinegar), shaky macaroni (pasta with green cheese and butter), green (local cheese), yellow buns (nuts) sweets, xerotigana with plenty of Astypalitic thyme honey, Astypalea nut with anise and of course plenty of seafood and fish cooked in all possible ways.

A summer destination you can visit from May to October.
How to use transportation in Astypalea
Airport/port transportation
For Astypalea you can travel either by ferry from the port of Piraeus (duration from 8 to 11 hours) with several itineraries in the summer but also with the surrounding islands of Dodecanese and Cyclades, or by plane from Athens airport ( duration 1 hour).
Public transportation
To move inside Astypalea, it is good to have your own car, but also in case you do not have one, local bus routes that connect the town and the port with the beaches and other settlements can assist you.
Alternatively, you can rent a car there or take a taxi.
