Astypalea is an island with a very interesting and delicious cuisine. Do not leave without trying: Astypalitiko goat, arantista (lentils cooked with chopped dough and plenty of vinegar), shaky macaroni (pasta with green cheese and butter), green (local cheese), yellow buns (nuts) sweets, xerotigana with plenty of Astypalitic thyme honey, Astypalea nut with anise and of course plenty of seafood and fish cooked in all possible ways.

How to use transportation in Astypalea
Airport/port transportation
For Astypalea you can travel either by ferry from the port of Piraeus (duration from 8 to 11 hours) with several itineraries in the summer but also with the surrounding islands of Dodecanese and Cyclades, or by plane from Athens airport ( duration 1 hour).
Public transportation
To move inside Astypalea, it is good to have your own car, but also in case you do not have one, local bus routes that connect the town and the port with the beaches and other settlements can assist you.
Alternatively, you can rent a car there or take a taxi.
