Travel to Halki, the sanctuary of soul and body
In the SE corner of the Aegean and a stone's throw from Rhodes, is Halki, the picturesque island of the Dodecanese. Although one of the smallest islands of the archipelago, Halki is not inferior in beauty, since its natural beauty, its amazing colorful architecture and the wonderful crystal beaches, with their golden sands, that surround it, make it a popular destination and, undoubtedly, an earthly refuge of peace and tranquility, ready to excite and enchant everyone.
The capital and central port of the island is Nimborio, a unique settlement of Halki, built in an amphitheatrical way on the slopes of the mountains, which surround it. A veil of aristocratic finesse wanders throughout the settlement, consisting of extremely well-preserved neoclassical mansions, which with their vibrant colors compose a painted canvas, which leaves no one unmoved. Cobbled alleys and picturesque small squares, emerge in every residential corner and become points of reference and meeting of everyone.
The imposing City Hall building with the Clock Tower and the church of Agios Nikolaos with its beautiful bell tower dominate the area, while the fishing boats and small boats dock in the sheltered waters of the port. A few kilometers away from Nimborio, is the Castle of the Knights and all that remains of the emblematic fortress, at the foot of which lies the deserted, today, old capital of Halki, the Village. The view to the open Carpathian Sea from the top of the hill compensates the senses, while the Monastery of Taxiarchis Michael Palarniotis, with its dense vegetation, is a green touch to the barren, rocky landscape of the island and a great ecclesiastical ornament. The beaches of the white sand and the clear blue waters, Potamos, Kania, Giali, Ftenagia and Areta, become real recreation oases, while a boating to the islet of Alimia, will ideally complement the parts of the natural paradise of Halki and will classify it, rightly , in your heart.
Food and local cuisine
The local cuisine in Halki is full of delicious local specialties, from pure products. Leading the way are fish and fresh seafood, as well as meat, cooked in various traditional ways. The cheese products of the island are exceptional, as well as the pure honey and the local sweets. Try dishes such as traditional Halki spaghetti, shrimp and goat ofto with rice.
