Kimolos, Small but wonderful!
Beautiful volcanic landscapes, raw paths, impressive white rocks, stone windmills, crystal clear waters - a place of rich natural beauty that invites you to explore it.
The capital is the Village, a beautiful settlement with typical Cycladic architecture. Wander in its freshly whitewashed cobbled streets and gaze at the flowery courtyards of the blue and white houses. The core of the village is the medieval castle, a fortified settlement with special architecture. At the entrance is the Folklore Museum, on its two floors you will have the opportunity to admire relics of historical importance, through which the folk heritage of the island is kept alive.
Opposite of the church Panagia Odigitria, in a traditional two-storey building, the Archaeological Museum is housed. It is worth visiting to see how the history of Kimolos is lost in the depths of the centuries.
At the southern exit of the village, visit Goupa Kara, a picturesque seaside settlement of incomparable beauty, with houses carved into the rocks and sea wires for protecting the boats.
In Kimolos, you will find magnificent churches, many of which are up to five centuries old. The church of Christ, built in 1592 by the priest Ioannis Ramfos, is the oldest on the island. Also important is the church of Panagia Odigitria, with the image of the Holy Mother created by the Palaeologans, the Byzanthine Emperors, in the 15th century, as well as the church of Agios Ioannis Chrysostomos.
Do not overlook Skiadi, a natural monument of stones carved from the air and in the shape of a huge mushroom. The route is at an altitude between hills and meadows in the northwestern part of the island.
Swim in the incredible turquoise waters of Polyaigos, the cave of Gerakia, the Pelekiti cave in Kakopotamos, Sufi and in the hot springs of Agioklimos. The beaches accessible by car are few: Prasa, Dekas and Kalamitsi.
