Travel to Nymfaio, the Nymph of snow and stone
Built in an amphitheatrical way on the southern slopes of Mount Vernos (Vitsi) and surrounded by majestic mountains and an alpine landscape of significant beauty, is Nymfaio, a small traditional and, officially since 1978, preserved settlement, with a glorious historical past and a rich cultural heritage. In a fairytale setting, the royal Nymfaio unfolds its architectural elegance, through cobbled streets and a series of well-preserved stone mansions, which remain in the place to remind of its former glory. The Nikeios school stands out, the old school of the settlement and now the conference center of AUTh, a trademark of the residential core of Nymfaio, which impresses with its architectural appearance and its solid superstructure.

Food and local cuisine
The local cuisine of the area offers a wide range of delicious meat dishes. Try meat in the pitcher, hunt, excellently cooked local dishes and soups, handmade pasta and delicious pies, but also dishes with lake fish (carp), combined with the fine wines of the wider area of Amyntaio.
When to visit Nymfaio
Although primarily a winter destination, Nymfaio is worth visiting at any time of the year. In winter the snowy landscape is impressive, while spring is an ideal time for activities such as horseback riding and hiking in nature. In summer the climate is pleasant and cool and suitable for boating on the lakes and excursions in the mountains and in autumn the colors of nature excite every visitor.
How to move to Nymfaio
Moving from/to Nymfaio
Get to Nymfaio by road. From Thessaloniki via Egnatia Odos to Veria, exit for Florina and then to Amynteo. From Athens via EO to Veria and then via the road Kozani-Florina-Kastoria reach the village of Aetos and turn right until you reach your destination. Alternatively by bus, to Amynteo and from there by taxi to Nymfaio.
Transportation in Nymfaio
After arriving in the area by private car, wander on foot to the picturesque neighborhoods and squares of the settlement, which will amaze you with their beauty.
