Algeria

A little bit of Africa and a little bit Europe, Algeria is a huge country (the second largest in Africa) that even in its busiest sightseeing places you will not see crowds of tourists flocking. 

Algeria has wonderful markets and Mediterranean coasts, while it combines a rich mix of Roman, Ottoman, Arab and Byzantine history.   Algiers, the capital of the country, is full of Ottoman palaces and centuries-old minarets, modernist buildings and shady cafes. Here you can spend days lost in the streets of the historic centre, drinking coffee or enjoying the colourful markets before a walk on the waterfront.

The white colonial buildings are impressive, the wide boulevards, referring to the times of the French occupation, and the blooming roads that lead down to the deep blue Gulf of Algiers.

Outside Algiers, mountains, deserts and coasts are waiting for you to be explore. The Sahara Desert alone is reason enough to visit Algeria, with its huge dunes, canyons, stone forests, but also τηε impressive caves with prehistoric paintings.
