Enjoy the excellent local cuisine
Ikaria has a long gastronomic tradition and fine local products. In the traditional taverns you should try smoked herring, anchovy fillet, fresh fish with local tsipouro or ouzo, local goat, zucchini meatballs, chickpea meatballs, cheese pies with Kathoura (a local goat cheese), Kolokasi (sweet potato of Ikaria) and Sufiko (traditional Greek roasted vegetables).
Leaving the island do not forget to take with you honey and Kaisi (local sweet made of an apricot variety).
Best time to visit Ikaria
Ikaria is an all-seasons island. In the summer to enjoy diving in its clear blue and crystal-clear waters and dancing until the morning at its festivals. In spring and autumn to explore its mountain villages, Gorges, and trails.
