Food and local cuisine
Maltese cuisine is very much influenced by Mediterranean cuisine, especially Italian and mostly Sicilian cuisine. Fresh Mediterranean fish, as well as seafood, have their place of honor and dominate the local specialties. Try the classic seafood risotto, the aljotta fish soup, with plenty of garlic, or fish pies in various variations. Taste lampuki (pouch made of dough stuffed with ricotta cheese), as well as sweet kannoli. Do not forget to try the cassata siciliana, cake soaked in liqueur with ricotta cheese, that will excite you.
The best season to visit Valletta
Ideally, choose to visit Valletta during the summer season. Despite the overcrowding observed during the summer months by tourists arriving especially with cruise ships, summer is the ideal time if you want to combine your visit with a boat trip, sunbathing under the Mediterranean sun, or swimming in one of the crystal-clear beaches of the island.
