Peterhof Palace
Peterhof Palace dates back to the 18th century and consists of a series of buildings, many formal gardens and a total of 173 fountains powered by underground springs. It has 30 rooms decorated with imposing gold colors, many marbles and objects from Asia combined with baroque fireplaces and giant mirrors.
The Church of the Savior of Hemorrhoids
One of the most beautiful sights of St. Petersburg is this colorful church designed in a traditional medieval Russian style. Alexander III ordered its construction in 1883 on the site where his father was assassinated two years ago. It took over 20 years to complete the church.
State Hermitage Museum
It was founded when Empress Catherine began acquiring works of art in the late 1700s, but the museum was not officially opened to the public until 1852. Today, the Hermitage is the second largest art museum in the world after the Louvre and holds a collection of over three million objects.
Fortress of Peter and Paul
The Peter and Paul Fortress was originally a fortress intended to protect the state from foreign attacks. While the fortress never saw a real battle, it has a dark history behind it, as it served as a prison and execution site during the Bolshevik Revolution in the early 20th century.
