Great Mosque of Algiers
The Great Mosque of Algeria, the third largest in the world and the largest in Africa. The interior of the mosque, in Andalusian style, is decorated with wood, marble and alabaster and along with its turquoise mats, it has six kilometers (3.7 miles) of Koranic text in Arabic calligraphy.
Shrine of the Martyrs
This war memorial was erected in 1982 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Algeria's independence and it reaches 92 meters in high. At the top of each palm leaf there is a statue of a soldier who died in the struggle for independence.
Basilica Notre Dame d'Afrique
Its construction is the culmination of a pilgrimage that began in 1846. In Roman, Byzantine and Mozaravian style. From the basilica, you can enjoy a wonderful view of the sea, the tombs are a summary of Algeria's history in the French era, from 1830 to 1962.
Botanic garden El-Hamma Jardin d'Essai
Founded by the French in 1832, it includes 58 hectares (140 acres) and houses about 1,200 species of plants from all over the world. The landscaping elements of the garden are divided roughly into English and French areas, with an emphasis on forests and extensive parks at first, and more flowers and fountains on the second part.
