A Day of Learning and Adventure at Lake Kerkini: Mazi Travel's CSR in Action
Empowering young minds and preserving nature through purposeful travel
This past weekend, Mazi Travel embraced its corporate social responsibility with a truly memorable one-day excursion in the Lake Kerkini area, on Saturday, October 4th. In collaboration with The Smile of the Child, we brought together children and their caregivers, along with Mazi Travel staff and their families, for an educational and interactive exploration of Lake Kerkini’s unique ecosystem.
A Purposeful Day of Discovery
The primary aim of the day was twofold: to delight the children with engaging activities and to raise awareness about sustainability in tourism. Through carefully designed, hands-on games, participants learned about the ecological footprint of travel and the importance of responsible visitor practices. The activities were crafted to foster curiosity and empower the next generation of travelers to think about how their choices affect the places they visit.
Collaborative Support from the Community
The success of the event rests on a web of generous collaboration. The GreenTeam at Mazi Travel developed the educational games with inspiration and resources from local environmental education partners:

Hospitality and Local Involvement
We were fortunate to receive heartfelt support from Kerkini’s local community. The guesthouse Oikoperiigitis, guided by a spirit of generosity, covered the cost of the visitors’ lunch—a delightful outdoor picnic near the lake shore. The local butcher shop To Xasapaki contributed a portion of the meal, ensuring everyone enjoyed a tasty break amid nature.
Educational Encounters at Lake Kerkini
A highlight of the day was a visit to the Lake Kerkini Wetland Information Center. The center’s well-maintained facilities offered a rich, immersive introduction to the lake’s history, flora, and fauna. Exhibits and descriptions underscored the wetland’s vital role in regional biodiversity and the broader importance of wetland conservation.
