Cropicorn.exe: A Green Tool for Tourism Professionals
Mazi Travel develops an app that saves paper, ink, and costs on Acropolis ticket printing
The IT Department at Mazi Travel, in collaboration with the company’s GreenTeam, has developed an innovative application to reduce the number of printed entry tickets for the Acropolis. The GreenTeam identified that the standard A4 tickets issued by the Hellenic Organisation of Cultural Resources Development (Ministry of Culture & Sports) used an entire A4 sheet, even though only a quarter of the page contained the necessary entry credentials. To address this inefficiency, the IT team created an app that scans the full ticket, crops out the redundant three-quarters of the page, and arranges up to four cropped tickets to be printed on a single A4 sheet. This targeted solution not only significantly reduces paper consumption but also supports Mazi Travel’s broader sustainability goals by minimising waste and promoting more responsible resource use within the company.

The application, named Cropicorn.exe, has already demonstrated impressive results—achieving up to 86% reduction in paper and toner waste, 75% fewer pages printed, 94% less toner use, and savings of over €100 for every 6,000 tickets printed. Furthermore, in the spirit of collaboration and environmental stewardship, Mazi Travel is eager to share this application with other tour agents and tourism businesses supplying tickets to the Acropolis archaeological site, helping them to reduce their own printing and ink usage—because sharing is caring.
