Arrival in Gap
You'll make your way to Gap and check into your hotel. If you need assistance planning your journey, we're here to help.
We recommend meeting in the hotel reception at 6:30 PM to gather with other participants before heading out for dinner in town. We can also assist in booking restaurants for you in advance.
Your rooms will be ready for check-in from 4 PM. If you arrive earlier, we can arrange for you to store your bags at the hotel and explore the charming Alpine town of Gap, with its pedestrianized areas, lively bars, and quaint shops.
Via Ferratas in the Champsaur Valley
At 8:30 AM, your guide will pick you up to explore the two distinct via ferratas in the Champsaur valley.
Via Ferrata of Ancelle:
Starting at 1600m and offering 250m of climbing and 170m of ascent, this high-altitude via ferrata overlooks the Rouanne valley. It progressively becomes more challenging, featuring a thrilling wire bridge and an excellent opportunity to test and enhance your via ferrata skills.
Lunch:
You can opt to dine in a village restaurant or enjoy a picnic at a scenic spot near the via ferrata. Your guide can help you decide, and we can make the necessary arrangements.
Via Ferrata Arthouze:
This dramatic via ferrata consists of three distinctive sections, each progressively more challenging. It includes a 40m pillar climb, a traverse through a natural tunnel, and a sporty, vertical cliff section, culminating in an athletic near-vertical climb.
Via Ferratas in the Devoluy Massif
The Devoluy is a stunning, untouched limestone massif that is home to various Alpine wildlife, including wolves.
Via Ferrata Gorges D'Agnielles:
This 500m via ferrata traverses a steep cliff above a gorge, offering an easy first section and a significantly more challenging second section.
Lunch:
Lunch is possible in a nearby village or as a picnic by a stream.
Via Ferrata Les Etroits:
This challenging 1100m via ferrata explores a deep and narrow gorge, featuring caves and unique rock formations. There's an easier route available for those who prefer a less technical experience.
Via Ferratas in the Ecrins Massif
Today, you'll enjoy a scenic drive along Serre Poncon lake before exploring via ferratas in the Ecrins Massif.
Via Ferrata La Falaise in Freissinieres:
This historic via ferrata, the first recreational one in France, offers stunning panoramic views and a classic via ferrata experience. It starts off easy and progressively becomes more challenging.
Lunch:
You can choose between a picnic or a restaurant lunch between the two via ferrata sites.
Via Ferrata Gorges d'Ailefroide:
This via ferrata on granite rock offers two different levels, catering to various skill levels. The route includes monkey bridges and a variety of routes along the rock.
Via Ferrata La Grande Fistoire and Return Home
You'll need to check out of the hotel in the morning, but we can arrange to store your bags if necessary. If you prefer, we can also arrange an extra night for your return journey.
The grand finale of your trip is the stunning La Grande Fistoire, considered one of the best via ferratas in the French Alps.
Via Ferrata La Grande Fistoire:
This magnificent via ferrata offers a challenging climb, a wooden swing bridge, a steep wall ascent, and spectacular views. Lunch will be enjoyed on the summit before descending via three thrilling tyrolean zip lines.
We'll return to Gap by early afternoon, allowing you ample time to catch your train or bus for your journey home.
Your journey will be centered around the town of Gap, which has an SNCF train station with connections to major TGV train stations and airports.
From the Gap train station, you can reach the Mon Hotel accommodation option on foot (approximately a 5-10 minute walk). The Olivades is a 10€ taxi ride away, and we can assist in arranging a local taxi for you.
By Train/Bus:
A regular coach service operates from Aix-en-Provence TGV directly to Gap.
There are direct train connections to Gap from Grenoble TGV station, and an overnight sleeper train from Paris to Gap.
You can plan your train journey using the Oui SNCF website, which serves all major European cities.
By Plane:
The nearest airports are Marseille and Grenoble. From Marseille airport, there is a regular coach service directly to Gap every two and a half hours. Plan your journey here. From Grenoble, you would need to take the airport shuttle to the train station and then a train from Grenoble to Gap, which is a bit more complicated than the direct and regular links from Marseille.
